Position Details


General Statement
The Head Volleyball Coach reports directly to the Deputy Athletic Director for External Relations and is responsible for the overall coaching, management, and excellence of MSU’s Volleyball program.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Hiring and managing a staff of assistants.
  • Recruiting student-athletes to MSU, both in-state and out-of-state.
  • Complying with NCAA, Big Sky, and MSU rules and regulations.
  • Analyzing opponents and designing game plans.
  • On-the-court coaching duties.
  • Promoting academic achievement and graduation of student athletes with specific goals of maintaining a sufficient APR and GSR.
  • Providing leadership to the student-athletes and staff of the volleyball program and promoting a culture of positive student-athlete development.
  • In coordination with the Deputy Athletic Director for Internal Operations; develop, oversee, and manage the Volleyball Athletic Budget.
  • Coordination of summer youth volleyball camps.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics, including fund raising, community, and on-campus partnerships in pursuit of the goal of developing a successful Volleyball program.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrated expertise in teaching and coaching collegiate volleyball.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting student-athletes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in public relations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a winning Volleyball program.
  • Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Master’s degree.
  • Knowledge of budgeting practices and ability to effectively apply that knowledge to the Volleyball program.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to complying with NCAA, Big Sky, and MSU rules and regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience as a collegiate volleyball student-athlete.
  • The Successful Candidate Will
    • Have excellent communication skills, be a positive motivator, have demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities, and be able to clearly articulate a coherent plan and vision to build and enhance the MSU Volleyball program.
    • Have impeccable integrity with a thorough commitment to NCAA, BSC, and MSU regulations.
    • Be self-motivated, make sound judgments, and be able to relate to and have a high interest in young people.
    • Be committed to the Department of Athletics mission and the mission of MSU.
