Position Overview | The head women’s basketball coach is responsible for the development and success of the women’s basketball program. This position develops the culture and determines the selection of student-athletes that are part of the program. This position is also responsible for the creation and teaching of the system that the team will utilize. This position hires and manages the women’s basketball assistant coaches and support staff members. This position serves as an ambassador for the program, the department and the University as a whole both locally and nationally. |
Duties and Responsibilities | 1. Coach and prepare players for competition at the national level. 2. Motivate and provide guidance and assistance to all members of the team. 3. Attend practice and intercollegiate games. 4. Recruit and select new student-athletes whose academic abilities and character are compatible with Marquette educational purpose. 5. Assess and ensure the eligibility of the student-athletes in accordance with NCAA, BIG EAST Conference and Marquette University rules. 6. Assure the continued oversight of academic admissions and performance of student-athletes through to graduation. 7. Prepare a competitive women’s basketball schedule. 8. Promote women’s basketball and Marquette, working directly with Media Relations, marketing staff and media where appropriate. 9. Hire, mentor and supervise women’s basketball assistant coaches and other support staff members. 10. Work with support staff areas within the Athletics department to ensure the wholistic development of each women’s basketball student-athlete. 11. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested. |
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | • Bachelor’s degree required. • Minimum 5 years of coaching women’s basketball experience required (Division 1 preferred) • System development and teaching that leads to success on the floor. • Recruitment and selection of student-athletes that can be successful at Marquette and on the floor nationally. • Ability to coach and prepare student-athletes to be competitive at the national level. • Values compatible with and supportive of Marquette’s mission as a culturally diverse, Catholic Jesuit University desirable. • Proven ability to recruit student-athletes that are successful in the classroom and on the floor. • Willingness to market the program within the Marquette and Milwaukee communities, as well as nationally. • Interested in the wholistic development of young women. • Proven ability to develop a successful team culture. • Proven ability to develop and teach a system that is successful on the floor. • Ability to recruit, develop, manage and retain coaching and support staff members. • Willingness and ability to effectively engage alumni and donors within the program and the University. • Desire to be at Marquette and buy into the academic and community service at Marquette, in addition to the athletics. • Proven track record of compliance with NCAA regulations. |
