Head Coach, Sprint Football

Student and Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.

The Sprint Football program is a self-funded, varsity athletic team within the Department of Athletics and Physical Education at Cornell University. As an important member of the Athletics and Physical Education community, the Head Coach shall show the commitment to embracing the priorities of the sprint football philosophy, embodying the unique culture, and meeting the expectations of the sprint football program. Valuing the student-athlete experience, engaging in alumni relations, and effectively managing a part-time staff are core to the role. As Head Coach, the position prepares team for practice and competitions in accordance with Ivy League, CSFL, NCAA, and University policies, works in cooperation with the trainers and other Athletics staff assigned to work with the team, and prepares the student athletes for their competitive schedule. The Head Coach also is responsible for preparing, administering and monitoring team budget, and communicating with alumni and friends of the program.

This is a full-time position. Starting salary is $74,300-$78,000 for this position. There is not visa sponsorship available for this position.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree; 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Commitment to the Student-Athlete experience.
  • Knowledge of NCAA recruiting and compliance rules and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong organizational and leadership skills, and an ability to identify, yield and develop quality student-athletes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; demonstrated success in cultivating relationships with alumni and other program supporters.
  • This position will require driving; therefore, a clean and valid driver's license must be held at time of employment and maintained thereafter.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated skill in understanding of cultural differences.
  • Proven experience connecting diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing practices to business goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with computers and office software; familiarity with ARMS software, video editing software, and other athletic-specific technology skills.
  • Prior coaching experience at an Ivy League institution, higher education school or within the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL).
