Position Summary:

FAU Harbor Branch, located in Ft. Pierce, is a research institute focusing on marine science and oceanography with over 200 scientists, staff, and students that work and study at the site. 

Florida Atlantic University is seeking HBOI Collections Assistants - Fort Pierce, FL.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with photography of invertebrate specimens in the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Museum (HBOM).
  • Staging specimens for labels for photography.
  • Taking photos of specimens and labels.
  • Returning specimens to jars.
  • Cleaning photography station between specimens .
  • Assisting with maintenance of the specimens in the HBOM collection.
  • Other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma required.
Ability to work with a team and communicate well with all levels of employees required.
Light lifting is required (less than 20 lbs.).
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Some college coursework in biology, or related disciplines.

Salary:

$15.00 per hour.

Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Hours are flexible at the discretion of the supervisor.

This position is funded with recurring grant funds with an expiration date on December 31, 2024. Renewal of funding is anticipated; however, not guaranteed.
Temporary positions are not established positions and are paid from OPS funds. Temporary positions are usually not eligible for benefits and retirement; however, they may be eligible for health insurance coverage depending on the average hours worked per week. They provide full-time or part-time employment in an exempt or non-exempt employment situation based on job duties and salary in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Temporary positions do not have layoff rights and may be terminated without prior notice.
