 Supports oversight of all activities involving hazardous materials and guarantees their compliance with regulatory requirements. Assists in updating policies, programs, and trainings and coordinates approval of research registration documents. Reviews research protocols, collects and analyzes samples, and recommends proper handling procedures to University personnel.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification Minimum education is a Bachelors Degree in Health Sciences, Biological Sciences, Safety Sciences, or other related science. Experience in the laboratory and biomedical research environment is preferred along with experience in occupational health and safety, regulatory compliance, and/or biosafety. Proficiency is necessary in PC based software, including MS Office and Access/Excel database management.
Work Schedule Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm
Work Arrangement On-Campus: Teams that work on campus, in an office, or in a lab.

Essential Functions The Hazard Assessment Coordinator reports to the Biosafety Officer in the Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S). The position is responsible for coordinating the EH&S review and approval process for research registration, and for verifying complete and compliant information derived from EH&S risk assessment/hazard evaluations. The position reviews research protocols and updates risk assessments. The position supports the laboratory safety programs. The incumbent will communicate with the research staff, IBC and IACUC Office representatives, and other EH&S staff. Knowledge of laboratory practice, occupational safety and health standards and regulations, and computer databases is desired.
Physical Effort Must be capable of conducting site visits to laboratories and other areas of the University campus, and verbally communicating with personnel. Must be capable of wearing respiratory protection which enables safe work in environments potentially containing biological agents that are infectious via inhalation.
