Facilities Management is seeking a Grounds/Utility Worker who performs a variety of physical work such as maintaining grounds, and transporting furniture, equipment, and various building materials. This role assists more skilled maintenance workers in the performance of their job as needed.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs grounds keeping duties such as digging ditches, removing trash, sweeping walkways, removing snow and ice, raking leaves, mowing lawns, trimming shrubs and hedges, and weeding flower beds.
  • Moves furniture and equipment.
  • Transports materials, supplies, and tools such as brick, pipe, cement, lumber, and wire to and from work area for more skilled maintenance workers.
  • Assists other maintenance workers at their work when necessary such as to support heavy work materials while work is in progress, holding and steadying large tools and maintenance equipment, fetching, handing, or holding tools, materials, and supplies.
  • Observes all safety precautions and uses equipment properly to avoid harming self and others, and damaging property.
  • Maintains equipment and work area in clean and orderly condition. May be required to be available to work 24 hour calls.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

NOTE: Schedule - Monday - Friday, 6:00 A.M - 2:30 P.M

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred; significant related experience/training may substitute.

 

Preferred Qualifications:


  • One or more years of experience preferred.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to lift, carry or otherwise move and position objects and materials weighing up to 50 lbs. On an infrequent basis, may need to lift up to 80 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk or otherwise move about campus on a continuous basis.
  • Ability to ascend/descend ladders periodically to perform landscape maintenance.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Familiarity with the tools, equipment, and materials used by more skilled maintenance workers they assist.
  • Ability to read and write in order to read work orders and to complete records, maintenance schedules, and so forth.
  • Ability to interact and/or work with faculty, students, staff, and visitors in a respectful and courteous manner.

 

This is a Bargaining Unit position. All newly hired employees in Bargaining Unit positions shall be considered
