ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The USF Botanical Gardens is part of the Environmental Conservation Outreach, Research, and Education (ECORE) Sytstem within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Gardens consists of about 16 acres of gardens and greenbelt on the USF Tampa campus. The Gardens maintains a living collection of more than 3,000 of plants, animals and natural habitats and serves as an important research, education, and outreach tool for USF. Plant festivals and other events attract enthusiasts from around the state to shop for rare and unusual plants and learn about sustainable gardening. The Gardens supports ongoing research in medical botany, biology, engineering, for example, and provide opportunities for service-learning to USF students. From student organizations to many Tampa Bay area volunteers, there are many ways to get involved on campus.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Grounds Superintendent is responsible for assisting in overseeing all aspects of maintenance within the ECORE systems specializing in the Botanical Gardens. This position supervises groundskeepers, coordinates with contractors, coordinates operation and maintenance of landscape features and equipment. The Ground Superintendent will work closely with the Assistant Director to manage projects and upgrades within the garden.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position requires working outdoors.

Schedule dependent on Botanical Gardens hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Estimates costs, manpower needed, and time necessary for completion of land management and maintenance projects. Prepares job specifications and progress reports on land management and maintenance. Requisitions and controls supply and equipment for a grounds crew. Confers with college personnel and organizations in coordinating and scheduling land management and maintenance in connection with various college activities which are held at the Botanical Gardens.
Recommends and implements methods and procedures designed to increase overall effectiveness of the grounds operation.
Compiles information for budget estimates and special projects, develops budgets for equipment and programs, and monitors the expenditure of funds for facilities equipment and services.
Plans, schedules, assigns, supervises, and participates in the work of a grounds crew. Uses appropriate equipment to mow, edge, water, rake, and treat the grounds; Planting, pruning and shaping, trimming, staking, cultivating, fertilizing, spraying, weeding, transplanting, and watering trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers, and hedges. Execute projects to improve and beautify outdoor areas.
Reviews assigned staff's work in progress for adherence to job specifications, safety regulations and project timelines. Trains employees on job duties and safety regulations, protection and safety procedures for handling equipment or materials used on the job. Hires, coaches, reviews, supervise, and terminate assigned employees, or makes suggestions and recommendations  regarding the employment status of assigned employees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:

The position requires master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience and valid Florida driver's license. Directly related career experience may be substituted for the degree requirements on a year for year basis.

FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
