Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director’s Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department’s guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.
Position Summary
Performs maintenance on athletic fields and facilities to include mowing, edging, raking, field repair and construction and other task assigned by the Sports Turf Manager; assists in the preparation of playing surfaces; assists in installing and repairing irrigation systems; operates equipment such as riding lawn mower to include reel-type multiple-gang equipment, line trimmers blower, edger, spreader, sprayer, and other equipment required for proper field maintenance; assist in maintaining equipment and tools; assist in keeping facilities clean; measure and lays out playing fields and prepares fields for painting and marking according to sport specifications; assist supervisor in analyzing turf problems such as diseases, insects and weeds. Manuel Labor (mowing, weed eating, blowing, etc.)
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification. Optional Guidelines: experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Assist in applying chemicals and fertilizers to playing surfaces; move equipment and supplies weighing up to 50lbs with or without reasonable accommodations; work related events which may require nights and weekends; ability to work schedule as defined and additional overtime hours as required.
