Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

Perform a variety of duties related to the maintenance and upkeep of the grounds at the WSU Spokane campus. Perform assigned work under general supervision. Work includes but is not limited to: lawn and plant care, walkway maintenance, picking up litter/debris.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Landscape Maintenance and Lawn Care: 35%
  • Operate Equipment: 30%
  • Pest Control & Management: 10%
  • Walkway Maintenance: 10%
  • Litter Control: 10%
  • Other: 5%

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to do required work, and one year of experience or training involving grounds maintenance, gardening, plant care, cultivation and landscape installation.

Additional Requirements:

  • Physical ability to perform the duties.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including, early morning, evening, and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work in inclement or extreme weather conditions.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain by the time of hire and maintain, a valid driver’s license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain the following licenses within six (6) months of hire; Public Pesticide Applicator, Ornamental Insect and Disease, PCO Structural, Right of Way Spray, and Lawn Safety licenses.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in outdoor work or yard maintenance.
  • Demonstrated experience working with personal computers.
  • Demonstrated experience working with equipment required for grounds maintenance activities.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand and motorized tools such as; pruners, loppers, shovels, rakes, hoes, mowers, blowers, edgers, litter picker, chainsaw, trimmers, string trimmer and sprayers.

Monthly Salary: Range 32 | $2,764 to $3,558. (B-M) | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
