Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Designer works collaboratively with a variety of constituencies and team members to develop strong creative solutions to marketing needs and manages the conceptualization, design, and production process of print and electronic media.

- Create original concepts and designs for selected University publications, website and other forms of collateral as requested, working with printers and photographers to assist with content and budget for all projects.

- Consult with and serve as a resource to various University constituencies to develop appropriate design solutions based on brand standards and constituent needs, efficiently managing and producing projects on or before the deadline. This includes checking design proofs and pre-press proofs for accuracy as we JI as written instructions on printing specifications for clarity.

- Manage visual standards for University publications in consultation with supervisor, which includes but is not limited to procedures to ensure quality and consistency in the production of designs, illustrations and photography.

- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design and at least 2 years of direct professional experience. Successful background check is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and 4-5 years of professional experience. A demonstrated understanding of quality design aesthetics, principles, and techniques for a wide range of multi-page, multi­color publications and web in a variety of formats is highly desired. The ideal candidate will possess excellent project management skills.


Planning, project management, and good interpersonal and communication skills are necessary. Must be proficient in InDesign, Adobe Suite CS4, Photo Shop, Microsoft and commercial printer industry standards.
