Position Summary

The Graphic Designer works as part of the Advancement Communications team, serving multiple units. Reporting to the Senior Director of Advancement Communications, this position maintains visual identity and branding within UO Brand Management and Trademark Licensing and University Advancement guidelines and designs high-quality marketing and branding materials for Advancement’s initiatives and unit programs.

The designer works independently and cooperatively on multiple projects with the Advancement marketing team, meeting deadlines and budget constraints, and scheduling project implementation based on workload, which may include multiple projects simultaneously.

The designer examines existing processes, identifies flaws, and creates solutions to improve design capabilities. The designer is also responsible for updating and maintaining internal design, photography, and video libraries.

The position requires thorough knowledge of publication and digital design and an understanding of the proper use of the English language.

Day-to-day work for the graphic designer will include:
• Designing on-brand, creative solutions for a variety of uses publications, brand campaigns, websites, email templates, social media graphics, banners, advertisements, videos, and photography.
• Translating strategic direction and taking ideas from concept to execution, by producing high-quality design within the established UO brand and unit identities.
• Developing concepts by hand or with software, and executing original content determining ideal usage of color, text, font style, imagery, and layout.
• Managing the design and uploading process of all project material; understanding best practices for using a content management system.


Minimum Requirements

• Four years ears of Graphic Design experience OR
• Associates Degree and three years of Graphic Design experience OR
• Bachelor’s degree and two years of Graphic Design experience.

Degree may be in Graphic Design, Graphic Art, Fine Art, or closely related field.


Professional Competencies

• Expert level skills with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
• Ability to communicate effectively, including the ability to proofread.
• Ability to stay organized, meet deadlines, and collaborate with colleagues to deliver high-quality designs.
• Strong understanding of design principles for layout, typography, and composition for both print and digital design.
• Proficiency in preparing print documents and assets for multimedia including websites, social and video platforms while following industry standard technical specifications.
• Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
