Job Summary

As a member of the Advancement Communications team, this position will create compelling and persuasive designs in support of UCSF that encourages philanthropic support and showcases the groundbreaking science being advanced at UCSF.

This position will be a key member of an award-winning four-person design team responsible for developing the UCSF Magazine, major websites, event collateral, and a suite of sophisticated solutions that inspire the Bay Area’s most influential philanthropists. The designer’s responsibilities include:
• Original and template-based print designs for donor communications
• Interactive presentation decks and special projects
• Event invitations and collateral
• Reports, proposals, and publications
• E-newsletter design, social media posts
• Prepare files for print and review proofs
• Catalog and document projects
• Retouch photos and optimize for print and web
• Upload, tag, and categorize photo library assets
• Assist with designing and building email templates, web page layouts, and digital assets

The ideal candidate should have a strong and sophisticated design portfolio, and 2-5 years of agency or in-house experience. Please share your portfolio URL within your job application.

Department Description

The UCSF Foundation and the Office of University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) are responsible for fostering and strengthening the campus outreach efforts to UCSF constituents and for garnering private support for the campus and the Medical Center. In raising private support, UDAR identifies, qualifies, solicits and stewards donors for the schools, medical centers, departments and programs on campus; accepts and administers all private gifts to the university through The Regents or the UCSF Foundation; and manages all alumni relations activities, campus support group activities and campus events. The UDAR office staffs the UCSF Foundation. The office is also responsible for the design and implementation of fundraising campaigns for UCSF


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 3+ years related work experience
  • Thorough knowledge of design software applications
  • Strong skills to effectively produce visual materials that meet and satisfy the needs of the Client
  • Strong skills in collaboration to best meet project goals and objectives of clients

Preferred Qualifications

  • Time and project management skills to effectively establish priorities and meet competing deadlines
  • Strong skills in interpersonal communications to interact effectively with a variety of clients, support staff and vendors

  • Experience using project management software
