LOCATION: Marketing and Communications
STARTING HOURLY RATE: $20.61 + hourly, depending upon education and experience, GF
POSITION PURPOSE South Dakota Mines is accepting applications for a Graphic Designer as part of the university’s Marketing & Communications team. This position is responsible for understanding the university brand to create visual aspects that capture attention and communicate ideas and information. A variety of projects land on this desk from print materials, digital assets, promotional items, advertising, to magazine layout and more. A bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field is preferred. 5 years’ experience in a marketing agency, or similar, is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
  • design, layout, and graphic art methods and techniques.
  • high level of proficiency with graphic software applications, Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat Pro.
  • commercial art materials and equipment.
  • principles and practices of preparing work for printing processes.
  • proficient with computer systems and common applications (Mac OSX, Windows, and Microsoft Office).
  • strong understanding of English language, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.


Ability to:
  • establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships, interacting in a supportive manner with faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
  • communicate information clearly, concisely, and accurately to others both in oral and written form, expressing ideas in a manner that the user can understand, exercising tact, patience, and professional demeanor.
  • handle multiple tasks, prioritize accordingly, and meet strict deadlines.
  • develop relevant illustrations and graphic presentations.
  • organize, coordinate, and prioritize production schedules.
  • provide outstanding customer service.

COMMENTS: A bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field is preferred. A minimum of five years’ experience in a marketing agency, or similar, is preferred. Please include a link to your portfolio when submitting your application.
