Northern State University invites creative individuals to apply for our Graphic Designer position.  Responsible for various design projects and visual communication tasks. A key objective is to create captivating and effective visual content, including graphics, illustrations, and layouts for digital and print media. Alongside this, the Graphic Designer contributes significantly to the university’s branding efforts, collaborates on major campus design projects, and aids the Communications and Marketing team in crafting visual elements for the university and its departments.
Job Duties:
(60%) Graphic Design
 Create graphics for print and digital
 Use design software to create graphic art and visual material for publications such as
printed publications, flyers, posters, brochures, direct mail, email, social media, and
digital advertising
 Understand marketing requests and requirements by working with internal clients and
external vendors
 Manage design vision
 Assist with marketing events, promotions, fundraisers, and community events
 Responsible for maintaining a uniform look and feel throughout all marketing materials,
while also allowing for creative expression within the confines of the existing brand
identity guidelines.
 Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
(20%) Quote Coordination

Ensures compatibility of client preferences, designer’s concept, materials availability, and
technology capabilities by consulting with clients and printers about job specifications,
timeliness, cost, style, and media selection
•  Coordinates quotations for printing customer projects based on information about material and 
job costs
•  Request and manage quotes from vendors and arrange printing of the projects
•  Follow the guidelines of the State of South Dakota and the Board of Regents
•  Provide vendors and customers with print-ready artwork
(20%) Photography
•  Analyze and plan the composition of photographs.
•  Capture subjects in professional-quality photographs.
•  Take photos and video at campus or community events
•  Use photo-enhancing software.
Qualifications:
•  Two-year degree or higher in graphic design or equivalent experience
•  A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in graphic design is preferred
•  A strong portfolio highlighting graphics, design projects and sample works
•  Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
•  Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
•  A keen eye for aesthetics and details
•  Requires excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills
•  Attention to detail and the ability to stay on top of and meet multiple deadlines
•  Ability to work independently or work cohesively with large and small teams
•  General knowledge of branding as it related to graphic design
•  Ability to use digital photography equipment
•  Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
•  Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
•  Ability to work flexible schedule
•  Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with diverse
stakeholders.
•  Flexibility in adapting to the evolving realm of graphic design, staying current with trends,
and seamlessly integrating them into visual communication strategies.
•  Higher Education experience is a plus
•  Ability to capture video and edit a plus
