Job Summary
  • Eastern Washington University’s Marketing and Communications department seeks a Graphic Designer to produce materials for a variety of projects including printed publications, advertisements (digital and print); vendor templates, slideshows, and illustrative materials, using graphic design tools and applications. Under general supervision, the graphic designer prepares original artwork that meets current branding standards for a variety of communication purposes to fulfill the needs of University Advancement and internal clients across the university.
  • This position works both independently and in a team environment to provide recommendations and advice to university partners on practical applications of graphic design, including appropriate size, media, paper stock, typestyle, colors, photography, etc. Utilizing established best practices and branding guidelines, the graphic designer helps to determine the most appropriate methods and techniques of designing and producing materials and publications targeted toward various audiences, including prospective and current students, alumni, donors, faculty and staff, and the general public.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication design, etc.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience as a professional graphic designer
  • Demonstrated expertise with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)
  • A portfolio of at least five (5) professional pieces that demonstrate the candidate’s design skill, ranging from print to digital materials
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, or our students, staff, faculty and the public.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five (5) or more years of experience as a professional graphic designer
  • Experience managing lower-level staff or student workers
  • Experience working in higher education or the public sector, specifically within a marketing/communications office
  • Demonstrated digital illustration ability
  • Applied knowledge of HTML/CSS design

    Conceptualizes, designs and produces projects such as printed and digital publications, reports, pamphlets, banners, web and social media graphics, brochures, posters, signs, booklets, bulletins, educational information, logos, advertisements, maps, illustrations, displays, slideshows, etc.
    ● Works directly with clients to understand their goals and objectives, while ensuring adherence to department and university-wide design standards
    ● Manipulates digital images, photographs, and illustrations using a variety of computer software techniques
