Major Duties

Under general supervision of the Director of Marketing, the Graphic Designer is responsible for working independently on a variety of small to medium-scale projects, or on a significant portion of a larger project, producing designs and prints using emerging tools to meet the diverse communication needs of the university. The incumbent assists with the overall artistic direction, strategically integrating the university's graphic communication efforts.

  • Creates design and layout for brochures, newsletters, posters, flyers, banners, print, web and other forms of advertising.
  • Utilizes illustration, photography, typography, and stock art to enhance print material.
  • Prepares charts, posters, signage, and maps, along with processing work orders, and accurately logging project progress and time spent on projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from college/university with a Bachelor's degree in graphic design/art, fine arts or related field.
  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis up to two years.
  • Equivalent to two years of graphic design experience is required. Experience working in higher education is a plus.
  • Experience using Mac computers is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of graphic design and production principles and communication theory including a basic understanding of marketing and promotion concepts. Advanced graphic design skills and artistic ability in order to translate communication needs into an artistic design. Solid working knowledge of applicable graphic design software packages and hardware systems and peripheral (i.e Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign).
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of design, pre-press, printing and other vendor services to prepare specifications for printing and other services. Knowledge of offset printing and file preparation for print production. Working knowledge of copyright laws applicable to design work and creative properties.
  • Ability and Specialized Skills to:  use interactive technologies; address communication and visual product goals; create effective, well-organized design pieces understand university-level curriculum concepts and convey them graphically; ability to prepare camera-ready materials; plan, coordinate and direct graphic art communications projects and handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to consult and communicate effectively with faculty, staff and students and to interpret and translate their needs into effective visual formats; work independently; supervise the work of others; adhere to deadlines; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; and work in a multicultural environment. Must be detail oriented.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
  • Classification: Graphic Designer / 0820  / grade 2
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3977 - $5676 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $3977 - $7197 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.  
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The position is currently hybrid (2 days in office, 3 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
