The Foster School at the University of Washington is seeking Graphic Design Director to join its marketing and communications team within the Office of Advancement. Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Graphic Design Director will oversee the look and feel of the Foster brand and ensure alignment across programs. They will produce creative graphic and multimedia elements that elevate the school’s brand and programs across digital and print channels. The primary goal for this position is to engage Foster’s audiences through innovative and compelling design, photography, and video that helps to increase brand awareness, attract new students, and communicate the excellence of our programs and faculty to existing students and alumni. This is a key position within the marketing team that will contribute to a culture of innovation and collaboration with measurable results.

This position will oversee the Foster brand’s graphic elements and need to be collaborative with the in house marketing team, the agency of record, other vendors as needed, and all Foster programs and centers. They will be charged with creating graphic elements for elevate Foster’s brand across digital and print channels. They will need to be able to work cross-functionally and proactively manage their time. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Brand Oversight

• Establish Foster’s brand identity and create and maintain brand guidelines for parent and sub-brands
• Approve and manage logo and brand usage requests
• Consult with marketing and program staff on creative approaches

Graphic Design

• Produce and manage creative design projects and concepts for use in print and digital media that help promote the Foster brand as well as its programs and learning centers
• Oversee the production of video and photography projects and ensure brand and message alignment
• Participate in the strategic planning process for tailored marketing plans to represent creative design approaches that support marketing goals
• Consult and guide staff on use of brand and program design best practices and creative solutions to design challenges
• Manage the testing and review process for design elements
• Stay aware of and respond to design trends that help push the Foster brand
• Assist in other areas of marketing and business development related to graphics and design

Management

• Manage one full-time position responsible for photography and video
• Manage outside design, photography, and video vendors as needed

Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree and four years of professional experience.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Demonstrated graphic design skills across digital and print
• Photography and video skills preferred
• Strong organizational skills, initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness
• Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment
• Experience engaging with customers or audiences

DESIRED:

Experience in a corporate marketing or higher education marketing
