Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students.  Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university.  SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking a Grants Writer to help coordinate and grow the robust grant activity on campus. The Grants Writer will have major responsibility for grant planning, writing, and administration; will provide assistance with other college fund-raising activities, grants from Foundations, corporations, and government sources, and provide revenue for college initiatives, campus innovation, policy, advocacy, and special projects that result in the fulfillment of the community college mission.
This position requires a 12-month probationary period for both new hires and transfers.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Excellent technical writing, oral communication, and organizational skills and be able to articulate educational goals and develop objectives, budgets, evaluation methods and desired program outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of the use of computer-based technology for research, word processing, development of spreadsheets and oral presentations.
  • Ability to work well under pressure/meet deadlines
  • Understand and be committed to the unique nature and role of the community college
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty & staff and other stakeholders important to the college.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience in successfully securing grants and/or private funds for a non-profit or government organization preferred.
