GRANTS FINANCIAL COORDINATOR, Chemistry, to be a key member of the department's finance team.  Responsibilities include acting as the primary financial contact for pre- and post-award activities for an assigned faculty portfolio; assisting with proposal preparation, development, and submission/resubmission; coordinating the preparation, review, and submission of budget revisions and Just-In-Time (JIT) requests; financial management of general, fund, and research accounts; providing monthly financial forecasting and updates to faculty and ensuring proper salary distribution; working with faculty and their staff to ensure compliance and proper distribution of funds; coordinating requests with central offices and other departments, labs, and centers (DLCs); assisting with annual financial reporting requests; tracking/monitoring account expenditures for compliance with institutional policy, sponsor guidelines, and approved budgets; assisting with salary distribution and Roles Database authorization requests; performing monthly reconciliations of expenditures and reviewing and approving expenses; monthly oversight of risky transactions, unassigned travel, and swept credit card charges; monthly review/resolution of account overruns and closeouts; collaborating on monitoring and analyzing departmental financial review and control compliance reports; assisting with fiscal year-end closing; and other duties as assigned.  


Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; two years’ accounting/finance experience, preferably in university accounting; strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills; ability to meet deadlines and oversee accounting transactions; attention to detail; strong Excel skills, familiarity with SAPgui or similar package, and willingenss to learn new systems/software and keep up-to-date on sponsor and MIT accounting policies; and ability to develop strong working relationships with a variety of faculty, staff, and other DLCs.  PREFERRED: experience with research accounting, relational databases, Kuali Coeus, and Grants.gov.  Job #21405-6
