Job Summary

Performs pre- and post-award accounting duties for complex grants and contracts. Prepares, negotiates, and monitors grants, contracts, and budgets. Maintains award-related schedules, prepares complex government applications and reports, and interprets policy and procedure. Monitors account activity, performs internal audits, resolves complex issues, and reviews routine financial documents. Develops and implements accounting techniques and procedures for operational improvements and assists with managing special projects and preparing operating budgets.


Essential Functions 

This position covers the activities related to the full lifecycle of sponsored program administration including identification of funding sources, proposal submission, sub-award issuance, and post-award administration (both financial and non-financial) related to funding provided in the form of gifts, grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts from external/internal funding sources (e.g., federal agencies, state agencies, private companies, or foundations) that provide support for research.

Assist with

  • the submission of final technical, monthly, quarterly annual reports and proposal preparation by reviewing sponsor guidelines and university guidelines and drafting proposal checklists.
  • Preparing Closing Memos for Sponsored Research Accounting,
  • Account Reconciliation
  • Coordinating proposal development, faculty financial reports
  • Developing, finalizing, and/or approving proposal budget and cost share; preparing required forms, representations and certifications, and budget justification; obtaining cost share approvals
  • Drafting requests for sponsor approval of budget revisions
  • Drafting standard proposal documents including required forms, representations and certifications, and budgets
  • Facilitating materials transfer and other agreements; assisting Property Inventory with receipt, accountability, and reporting on government-owned equipment
  • Initiating requests for advance account numbers and sub-awards
  • Monitoring end dates of projects/funds
  • Managing work activities in a large volume, fast-paced, complex, detailed, and multifaceted environment
  • Prioritizing timelines/schedules through interpretation of potential funding opportunities and holding the proposal team accountable

Physical Effort 

Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary.
