Summary of Duties:

The Grants and Projects Business Analyst is responsible for supporting the following functions within Workday: Award setup, Award billing, Effort Certification, and capital and non-capital Projects. This includes: researching process improvement options, interpreting and applying organization policy; recommending changes in procedures and working collaboratively with internal and external subject matter experts and stakeholders. Grants management in Workday relies on processes in related functional areas such as payroll and core finance; the incumbent must possess understanding of related functional areas and participate in troubleshooting in areas outside of grants.
 

The incumbent must use critical judgment to interpret and apply rules and regulations, as well as State and University policies. The incumbent needs to be a self-motivated individual who works well independently with little supervision. The incumbent serves as a resource for department customers on policies, procedures, and best practices.
 

Organizational Relationships: Partners closely with broader HR and Finance work stream members in a cross-functional and collaborative work environment. Works with University stakeholder groups as a lead or participant in workgroups.
 

Routinely engages with end users on a variety of topics.


Modernization serves WSU system-wide including the Pullman, Everett, Spokane, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver campuses. This position is currently eligible for remote/hybrid work; the work schedule is required to primarily overlap normal Mod Office hours M-F between 8am - 5pm Pacific Time.



Required Qualifications:


  • Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management Information Systems, or related field AND two (2) years of professional experience in procedural, management, or business analysis work; OR a combination of education and experience totaling six (6) years from which comparable knowledge and ability are acquired. A Master’s Degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience.

  • Related degrees include Finance, Accounting, or other Business fields.

  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying laws, rules, policies, and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with large groups and individuals at all work levels.

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and desire to promote, diversity.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and software applications.

  • A record showing commitment to customer service and the application of appropriate flexibility in response to issues and opposing points of view.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading or participating in business systems projects.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of business processes specifically related to finance, general accounting, accounts receivable, procure to pay, payroll, sponsored programs, budget, or travel processing.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully prepare and present policy interpretations, findings, and conclusions.

  • Finance experience in a higher education setting.
