The Grants and Contracts Senior Specialist will cover all the sponsored research activities for selected units within the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as aid the College in its mission of promoting research excellence. Developing proposals, financial forecasting and effort planning for these units are essential. The positions' duties are broken down into the following 4 areas:

Pre-Award The Grants and Contracts Senior Specialist will manage all proposals submitted from the selected departments. They will help draft budgets, review all necessary documents, and get them submitted to the Office of Sponsored Programs in advance of the sponsors’ deadlines. They will also complete the PA-005 document and help track its progress as it garners approvals. Working with college leadership and faculty they will identify and disseminate potential federal, private and non-profit funding opportunities.
Post-Award This position monitors the assigned units' sponsored projects from set-up to close-out. The Grants and Contracts Senior Specialist will monitor the fiscal health of active projects and provide budget forecasts to the PIs and the cost center managers as necessary, focusing on awards that close out in the next 365 days. They will assist the PI and OSP in submitting annual and final reports to sponsors when necessary. They will continually monitor the status of awards and alert the personnel necessary whenever an issue is discovered. They will also manage the effort planning and monitor the effort certification processes for the departments.
Compliance The Grants and Contracts Senior Specialist will collaborate with Department, College, and Office of Research staff to make sure that all grant activities are compliant under all relevant policies, procedures and best practices. They will obtain necessary prior approvals for all purchases on sponsored projects. They will also review and monitor OSP monthly reports and fiscal and human resources records to be sure that all employees are appointed appropriately and accurately.  
Other Administrative Duties This position will serve as the primary liaison between the faculty, staff, college and OSP.  They will represent and college on external grant and committee meetings as necessary. They will serve as back-up to ASC grant support staff as needed, helping when an existing grants and contracts specialist leaves the College or is on out on leave. They will help to train and mentor new research administrators, as well as departmental staff on successful grants management. They will perform other duties for the College such as serving as an expert on select difficult sponsor mechanisms, monitoring conflict of interest and effort certification compliance, and other strategic priorities as they arrive.

Required: Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Four years of relevant experience.

Desired: Master's Degree or an equivalent combination or education and experience. Knowledge of University, Office of Research and Office of Sponsored Programs policies, rules, and regulations is strongly desired; or experience with research in the areas of natural, mathematical or social sciences; proficiency with computer software programs including Microsoft Word and Excel is desired.

The pay range for this job profile is $58,100 - $77,450. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
