About the School of the Environment:

The School of the Environment (SoE) advances the Earth, Environmental, and Geosciences to better understand global ecology, ecosystem science, and the future sustainability of both the natural and human-built world. The Grants and Contracts Administrator will provide pre- and post-award grant and contract support to leading scientists and educators who study ecology, conservation science, climate change, and the geology and dynamics of Earth system processes. Our faculty and students are located across the WSU system in Pullman, Vancouver, Tri-Cities, Puyallup, Wentachee, and other areas in Washington. Under the direction of the SoE Director and the Administrative Manager, our administrative team in Pullman includes fiscal staff, graduate student support, undergraduate advisors, instructional and classroom support, and the Grants and Contracts Administrator.

Summary of Duties:

The Grants and Contracts Administrator in the School of the Environment oversees, develops and maintains detailed records of departmental, grant, and financial transactions. The duties of the position include, but are not limited to: compiling, reviewing, and disseminating complex budget statements and reports to the faculty, researchers, and Director in accordance with GAAP; working with faculty to prepare/certify budgets, submit proposals, and approve eREXs per established protocols; performing all aspects of post-award grant management; preparing and/or utilizing various instruments for purchasing; processing deposits and donations; assisting with Service Center fiscal management; and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree, which includes 18 quarter or 12 semester hours in accounting, auditing, or budgeting and two (2) years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent education/experience.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with spreadsheet, database, word processing, e-mail, and calendaring software. (Microsoft Office).

  • Experience with budgets, personnel, and management of financial resources.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • One to three years of experience with Excel spreadsheets.

  • Knowledge and/or experience initiating and monitoring subcontracts and/or reviewing invoices to approve for payment.

  • Knowledge of and experience with Enterprise management software/Business Systems applications, such as Data Warehouse (Business Objects), Oracle, MyWSU and Workday

  • One to three years of familiarity with WSU or higher education system, which includes familiarity with a mainframe system, personnel processes, budget experience and fiscal process.

Monthly Salary: $3,987 - $5,229 –Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
