The Department of Mathematics at UW-Madison is expanding our support staff!
The department is home to approximately 350 employees including faculty, academic staff, university staff, postdoctoral trainees, graduate and undergraduate students. We are expanding our staff in the area of grant support and administration. The ideal candidate will have an interest in working with faculty and academic staff in supporting their efforts to secure extramural funding. The position requires a thorough knowledge of grant proposal development, grant administration and the conduct of research activities.
Position Summary:
The Pre-Award Grants Specialist is responsible for assisting faculty, postdocs, and graduate students through the various stages of securing extramural funding. This position will work directly with researchers for the purposes of grant planning and oversight of ongoing research. This position requires an understanding of the grant administration process, ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and initiative and personal accountability to meet deadlines and workload. The position requires a significant degree of organization and communication with a large variety of stakeholders across the organization and beyond.
This is a full-time 12-month position, eligible for the full suite of benefits offered by UW-Madison. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Requirements:
Minimum of Bachelor's degree is required
Must have strong analytical and writing skills
Preference for minimum 1 year experience in research or academic setting
Preference for candidates with experience in research grant activities, including sponsored programs administration with knowledge of federal regulations for the conduct of basic science research and patent regulations.
