LOCATION: Office of Sponsored Programs
STARTING HOURLY RATE: $26.72+ hourly, depending upon education and experience, GJ
POSITION PURPOSE: South Dakota Mines seeks a candidate for the Grant Specialist I position within the Office of Sponsored Programs. This position will be responsible for inputting applicable information in the sponsored project database and financial system, initial set up of projects per guidelines and requirements, review of travel requests and budget checks for approval, review of subaward invoices for reimbursements, proposal budget preparation and proposal submission, completing reports and ad hoc information requests from internal and external customers, and completing close out of sponsored projects.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
  • public administration as it relates to program activities assigned;
  • principles and theories of the program purpose, and the practices and procedures of implementation;
  • demographics of communities and groups receiving services;
  • generally accepted accounting and business practices and procedures;
  • methods, procedures, and purposes of financial analysis

Ability to:
  • interpret and comprehend applicable statutes, rules, and policies;
  • gather, interpret, report, and use information concerning assigned activities;
  • accurately prepare and audit financial documents and keep accurate records;
  • assess program effectiveness and recommend changes or alternatives;
  • train and provide guidance to staff and service users;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public;
  • prioritize and multi-task practicing excellent time management and organization skills;
  • communicate information concisely and effectively.

COMMENTS: Occasional travel may be required.
