Position Highlights

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, at the University of Arizona is accepting applications for a Grants and Contracts Administrator I.

This position serves to support the new Micro-Nano Fabrication Center (MNFC) facility renovation project funded by the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA).

The mission of this project will be to expand the clean-room space in the MNFC and install additional equipment and tools allowing for workforce training including the capability of distance learning expanding training opportunities beyond the MNFC facility. This project will partner closely with the Semiconductor Strategy Team.

The Grant and Contract Administrator is responsible for all ACA funding such as reconciliation, procurement, projections, digital account maintenance for the Center. A high degree of professionalism, confidentiality and initiative is expected.

This position is an on-site role at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ.

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position through the end of the project, currently anticipated as December 31, 2025.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Digital Account Maintenance: Setup and monitor digital accounts for all grants, maintain account-specific notes and internal spreadsheets, verify proper award documents and budgets are saved; assist with account template improvements.
  • Financial Account Balance & Projections: Respond to account balance inquiries, complete in-depth analysis of posted expenses, ensure allowability, investigate open encumbrances and available balances, manually track pending changes. Communicate hiring/purchasing options to faculty based on expense forecasts.
  • Financial System Monitoring and Reporting: Review transactions for accuracy and completeness, communicate concerns or updates to faculty regarding specific expenses. Review auto-generated reports with faculty on monthly; assist with financial reports due to internal or external partners. Provide manually-created reports which fall outside the UA Analytics tools currently in place.
  • Financial Compliance and Training: Internal trainings, streamline reporting mechanisms and templates to aid in financial reporting; provide policy and procedural information to faculty regarding any applicable university, state, local government, or federal partner.
  • Attend account reconciliation meeting with Project Manager, Directors and Business Team.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to develop comprehensive budgets using Excel and system-generated financial reports.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. To perform the role, most communication occurs within the department or other work units within the college or university.
  • General knowledge and use of accounting principles and project financial management.
  • Work is performed with moderate guidance and may be reviewed for soundness of judgement, accuracy and alignment objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or similar business field.
  • Up to 1 year of relevant work experience may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with government grant or contract financial administration.
  • Experience working with University financial system.
  • Master's Degree in accounting, finance, business or economics.
