Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Information Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is seeking an individual to serve as a Teaching Assistant in our graduate information quality and database courses for the Spring 2024 semester. The Teaching Assistant (TA) will serve in an instructional capacity under the direct supervision of a faculty supervisor. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education;

  • Regular admission to a UA Little Rock graduate degree program or good standing with the UA Little Rock Graduate School for continuing graduate students;

  • Ability to work the required hours (FT-50% - 20 hours per week/PT-25% - 10 hours per week) with regular attendance.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Programming in languages such as Python or Java for Desktop, Server Side Web Apps, or Cloud;

  • Web Design and Development Skills involving HTML, CSS, and Javascript;

  • Database Development and Writing SQL Queries (Oracle, MS SQL Server);

  • Application Development Skills (e.g., SDLC, Agile);

  • Project Management Skills;

  • IT Infrastructure knowledge including hardware, operating systems, networks, and cloud computing;

  • Statistics, Data Mining, and Machine Learning;

  • Information Quality, Data Munging, and Data Wrangling.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend class sessions;

  • Serve as an assistant in laboratory activities;

  • Lead a class activity such as a discussion group or demonstration;

  • Tutor students;

  • Hold Office Hours and Respond to email questions from students;

  • Proctor examinations;

  • Grade tests and homework assignments;

  • Assist with development and evaluation of instructional materials.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Skills in the planning, organization, coordination of activities;

  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships;

  • Skills in both verbal and written communication;

  • Skills in the use of personal computer and related software applications.

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge in SQL/database;

  • Entity resolution/record linking;

  • Python or Java programming experience;

  • JSON; 

  • Machine Learning. 

Non-programming Skills:

  • Documentation;

  • Technical Writing;

  • Test plan and test data development.
