The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law is seeking a Senior Program Specialist to support the Graduate Program (Master of Law and Master of Science in Laws Program (the “Program”)).  

Established in 1824, the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law is the fourth oldest law school in the nation and the state's flagship law school. Home to top scholars and change-makers, Maryland Carey Law is a leader in legal education, scholarship, and community engagement. The campus is located in the heart of historic downtown Baltimore, steps away from a daily rotation of food trucks, seasonal farmers’ market, one of the oldest indoor markets in the country (Lexington Market), Camden Yards, and the Inner Harbor.

The Master of Laws program is designed for U.S.-educated lawyers who already hold a JD from an American Bar Association accredited law school and foreign-trained lawyers who want to enhance their prior legal training by developing a breadth of knowledge or expertise in U.S. law.  The online Master of Science in Law is a part-time, two-year program developed for working professionals who want to gain a competitive edge in their career.  We offer three areas of specialist: Health Care law, Cybersecurity Law, and Homeland Security and Crisis Management Law.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Legal Studies, the Graduate Program Specialist will oversee the day-to-day operations for the LLM and MSL programs.  This position will serve as a primary point of contact for recently admitted and current students in the Program.  The Specialist will also connect with key stakeholders from various departments in the law school and campus to collaboratively support the Program’s goals and students’ success.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

·  Serve as a primary point of contact for recently admitted and current students in the Program. Provide timely and informative in-person, email and phone responses and solutions to requests and questions. 

·  Liaise with internal stakeholder from Admissions, Registration & Enrollment, Communications, Student Affairs, Career Development, and Development.  Work collaboratively to support Program goals.

·  Oversee the daily activities for the Program, providing general planning and direction. Contribute to development and evaluation of Program goals and objectives. Oversee Program communication including outreach, registration, and graduation requirements.

·  Maintain academic content and contact information on websites. Ensure accuracy and create original content to highlight Program activities. Highlight alumni profiles and oversee newsletter.

·  Organize recurring and one-time events for the Program, such as webinars, meetings, including development, and preparation of written products such as flyers, reports, and promotional materials, and website content, and other information resources for the improvement of the Program. Coordinate logistics, scheduling, and communications. 

·  Provide administrative assistance including logistics for online student services such as onboarding, orientation, and ongoing student support; supporting Blackboard courses; and other administrative duties as assigned.  

·  Contribute to LLM and MSL reporting. Provide data supporting annual and ad-hoc internal and external audits. 

·  Develop and maintain database of employers who are contacted about the Program, their response to the contact, and any hiring of grads by these employers.  

·  Research best practices, competing programs, and trends in online legal education and develop new program opportunities. 

 

Qualifications

  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·  Bachelor’s degree

·  Three (3) years administrative or program coordination

·  One (1) year in work coordination, training, and daily oversight of staff, students, or volunteers preferred.

·  Related experience to program may be substituted for education.

·  Ability to maintain high standards with the work being performed and maintain awareness with trends and influences.  

·  Demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion, and a proven ability to work with a diverse group of students, staff, and faculty.

·  Excellent skill in communicating efficiently and effectively both orally and in writing with a variety of people internal and external to the organization. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

·  Exercises initiative, resourcefulness and sound judgment with an ability to solve problems and make decisions. Ability to make independent decisions and be self-directed.

·  Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts.  Write and present information clearly and concisely. 

·  Possess knowledge of Program and advanced knowledge of best practices in online education and student services preferred.

 

HIRING RANGE: $70,000 - $80,000 per year (Commensurate with education and experience)
