Job Overview

The Graduate Intern - in a temporary role intended for a graduate student currently enrolled in a higher education program - works exclusively with Georgetown’s Summer Sessions. They work directly with our visiting undergraduate and graduate population, which specifically includes our Summer Honors Institutes for international students who join us from partner institutions abroad. Georgetown Summer Sessions offer more than 250 courses in a diverse range of subjects. Students are able to explore new interests or get ahead on their studies and can spend the summer living and learning in Washington, D.C., on Georgetown’s historic hilltop campus.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Work with the Program Director for Summer Sessions, Assistant Dean of Summer and Special Programs, Student Program Managers, and as assigned with other members of the SCS Summer & Special Programs team.
  • Support the Summer Sessions staff by leading, coordinating, administering, and supporting programs and services.
  • Co-supervise a team of 1-2 Student Program Managers.
  • Serve as primary support and contact for Summer Honors Institutes.
  • Serve as a liaison with the Office of Residential Living throughout the summer.
  • Function as an on-campus resource for all Summer Sessions students.
  • Assist in planning, marketing, and execution for all summer student programs (both co-curricular and social), including Summer Honors specific programming, e.g. Honors orientation, Honors closing ceremony, outreach events, exploring Washington, D.C.
  • Assist in the overall implementation and creation of content to increase presence on social media.
  • Assist in the overall administration of Summer Sessions, orientations, operations and initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of presentations and associated materials.
  • Attend events and meetings as assigned.
  • Assist in monitoring programmatic budget and record keeping.
  • Fulfill administrative and clerical responsibilities in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Work cooperatively with numerous partner offices across the university.
  • Assist with summer-related data collection & data processing.
  • Assist in identifying, defining, and resolving issues.

Work Interactions

Reporting directly to the Program Director for Summer Sessions, the Graduate Intern interacts and collaborates with partner departments across the university.

They assist with the day-to-day operations of Summer Sessions and support all aspects of our Honors Program.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and currently pursuing a Master’s degree in higher education/student affairs or similar field
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and in speaking
  • Experience creating and managing Excel worksheets
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced atmosphere, to take initiative, to work autonomously, and to exhibit organization in their work
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and personal integrity
  • An understanding of the needs of, and interest in, working with undergraduate students and international students
  • Passion and support for all students regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, nationality and/or language
  • Interest in international education and working with international students
  • Positive attitude, solid work ethic, and the willingness and availability to work irregular hours
