Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Graduate Coordinator (GC) works collaboratively with the Data Analyst in planning and implementing Department of Resident Life (DRL) research and assessment projects. The primary focuses involve project management, survey development, data analysis and reporting. Typical projects include surveys to measure satisfaction, program evaluation, and special projects related to department or division goals. Specific tasks and responsibilities include:
● Creating Tableau dashboards and interactive reports.
● Performing data management responsibilities; including manipulation of datasets using Excel, preparation of datasets for data analysis, and analyzing data using SPSS other syntax-based analysis programs.
● Assisting with project management including coordination and training of staff, tracking and responding to project issues, and overseeing data collection procedures.
● Assisting with development of quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, e.g., web-based and pencil/paper surveys.
● Assisting with other departmental or office tasks as necessary.
This is a live-off position and will be a full-time (20 hours per week) graduate assistantship. The position is in-person, some telework options may be available upon request and taking into account department needs and expectations. The term of this position is for AY25 (July 2024-June 2025). Potential to renew for additional 12-month contract if work performance meets expectations and depending upon the budget and needs of the office. The stipend for a full, 20 hour per week assistantship is at least $34,052 for a Step 1 graduate assistant and will be prorated based on dates of employment, step assignment, and 20 hours per week. This is the stipend amount for 2024-2025 and may be adjusted annually.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • Enrollment in a graduate program at the University of Maryland, College Park.


Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience with Tableau and/or Power BI data visualization software, including preparing of data files for dashboard reporting and production of interactive reports.
  • Background (coursework or experience) in data science, data management, higher education or a related field.
  • Experience presenting research or assessment results to a variety of audiences, such as student affairs staff and students; ability to translate research findings to practitioners.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated strong organizational and project management skills; ability to work both independently (with minimal supervision) and collaboratively on assessment projects.
  • Basic knowledge of research design, and quantitative & qualitative statistical analysis (specifically SPSS, R, or SAS); and strong computer skills (especially Excel).
  • Ability to adhere to university requirements and policies regarding confidentiality of educational records.
  • Qualified candidates will be highly motivated, organized and detailed oriented.
Preferences:

  • Completion of a master’s research thesis (or comparable research project) and knowledge of Student Affairs are strongly desired.
  • Expertise in conducting quantitative data analysis using syntax-based software packages, such as SPSS syntax, R, or SAS.
  • Experience with Qualtrics XM web-based survey platform.
  • Knowledge of best practices in data analytics and visualization.
  • Integration of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice principles within research and assessment.
  • Comfortable with occasional minimal guidance, varied job duties, and engagement with students.
  • Experience working within higher education, student affairs, or resident life.

Physical Demands
