Graduate Assistantship in Climate-Vegetation-Water interaction modeling, Auburn University

Updated: over 2 years ago
Location: Auburn, ALABAMA
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The Climate, Water, and Society Lab at Auburn University (http://wp.auburn.edu/thecwslab/) has multiple openings for master-level graduate research assistantship positions in Climate-Vegetation-Water interaction modeling to work on an interdisciplinary project involving remote sensing of vegetation, climate modeling, and groundwater trends and variability. These positions will be supervised by Dr. Lana Narine (Remote Sensing), Dr. Sanjiv Kumar (Climate Modeling), and Dr. Ming-Kuo Lee (Groundwater). The groundwater position is already filled, and we invite new applications for climate modeling and remote sensing positions. The specific aims of the project include: (1) effects of climate change on groundwater trends and variability in the tri-state region of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, (2) vegetation-climate interaction modeling using National Ecological Observatory Network data at Talladega National Forest, AL, and Community Land Model version 5 (CLM5) (3) Develop high-resolution vegetation and irrigation information using satellite observations, and machine learning. The positions are funded for two years by the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station Award for Interdisciplinary Research. Prospective candidates should be highly motivated and have a strong background in one or more of the following areas: remote sensing of the environment, climate modeling, hydrology, and groundwater modeling. Prior experience working with climate/hydrology/remote sensing modeling is a plus. Interested candidates should email a cover letter stating their research interests, CV, unofficial university transcripts, TOEFL/GRE scores (if applicable), and three references' names and contact information to Dr. Sanjiv Kumar ([email protected] ) for the climate modeling position and Dr. Lana Narine ([email protected] ) for remote sensing position. The expected start date for the position is January 2022. Application received before October 1, 2021, will receive the highest consideration.
