Position Summary Information


Job Description Summary
In support of the Student Affairs Learning Outcomes, the Wellness and Recreation team assists with programs, resources, and services to cultivate students’ connection to the Chapman community and their investment in their own and others’ well-being. The Graduate Assistant for Well-being Programming is an employee in the Department of Student Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs
Responsibilities
  • Assist with the development and implementation of in-person well-being programs related to a variety of wellness topics, including but not limited to stress management, emotional intelligence, physical activity, nutrition, mindfulness, sleep, and growth mindset.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of immersive well-being experiences, including well-being retreats.
  • Assist with promotion of campus well-being resources through CU Health and Wellness website.
  • Assist Well-being Programming Assistants research, plan, develop, and implement well-being programs and campaigns.
  • Assist with program assessment, including contributing to the development of an end-of-year report.
  • Assist with other duties as determined by supervisor.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and departmental training sessions.
  • Serve as a representative for the Wellness and Recreation team at campus events.
  • Participate in and contribute to Department of Student Engagement programs, services, experiences, and resources as determined by supervisor.
Required Qualifications
  • Enrollment in a Ph.D. or Master’s degree program, preferably focused on leadership development or higher education and student affairs.
  • Desire to gain knowledge of student development theory and issues relevant to higher education.
  • Ability/willingness to work some nights/weekends.
  • Commitment to teamwork, customer service, collaboration, and providing service to students.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, work independently, and hold high standards of dependability and accountability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills working with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the University.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy and to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Strong time management skills, including punctuality to arrive to shifts on-time, and the ability to prioritize duties when faced with interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workload.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Courteous and confident demeanor when delegating and holding others accountable.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Possess high attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work and learn from colleagues and supervisor.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment and various software programs.
  • Minimum of a cumulative 2.5 GPA.
  • Ability to lift objects of 25lbs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience working directly with well-being programming.
  • Familiarity with university departments and organizations.
  • Knowledge of or experience with campus policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of topics related to student well-being, belonging, and needs in higher education.
  • Ability to climb a ladder.
  • Ability to lift objects of 45 lbs.

The start date and required training dates will be confirmed on an individual basis when an offer of employment is made.
Time Commitment
  • Mandatory training starting July 22th, 2024
  • Ability to work 19 hours per week as necessary in Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Late night, early morning, and weekend hours are sometimes required.
  • Interterm work is available
