Position Summary/Purpose of Position: | The Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education (OMSE) offers a variety of services and programs to enhance the academic experience of diverse student populations at the University of Maryland. The mission of OMSE is to serve undergraduate multi-ethnic students to increase rates of matriculation, retention, graduation, and overall GPA. As an academic unit under the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), OMSE recognizes the value of the multiple histories, beliefs and ethnic backgrounds of our students and works with faculty and staff to support ethnic diversity and inclusion at the university. Sister to Sister (S2S) is a first year retention program created to establish an academic excellence and leadership forum for multi-ethnic females. Members of S2S serve as mentors and academic tutors to first year females. Sister to Sister also provides students with leadership opportunities, as well as personal, academic, and professional development opportunities. The goals of the Sister to Sister program are:
The graduate assistant (GA) for the Sister to Sister Program will lead recruitment, facilitation and management of a a first year retention program for the Office of Multli-Ethnic Student Education. As a first year retention program focused on multi-ethnic female-identifying students, the GA will serve as a primary point of contact, mentor, and leader to the executive board and members of the program. The graduate assistant will assist with meeting the goals and objectives of the Sister to Sister program. This position will report to the director and assistant program director to support the program as follows:
There are two half-time graduate assistant positions available. This graduate assistantship will require weekly evening coverage and occasional weekend work. |

Physical Demands | Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment. Regularly required to communicate and exchange information and to use technology/devices. Must have the ability to lift and deliver small carry parcels, packages and other items. With notice, must have the ability to attend events after normal business hours. Must have the ability to travel to meetings, events, etc. both on and off campus. |
