The Research Help Desk Graduate Research Assistant will provide research assistance to the patrons of the library at the Research Help Desk, the research help desk of University Libraries; teach research skills to undergraduates in both individual and classroom settings; develop resources and guides to aid in teaching library skills; and work on special projects. Research help involves providing in-person and online reference, research assistance, and instruction to students and faculty. Teaching opportunities include one-on-one consultations, library literacy sessions for undergraduate classes, and in-class research assistance for undergraduate classes. Special project work will be dependent on the Graduate Assistant, and they are encouraged to seek out project work that engages both their interests and career goals. Project work with full-time library staff may be available. Additionally, the Graduate Assistant will gain experience working with library tools, such as SpringShare software.
This position is designed as a learning and resume building experience for graduate students in the School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) or related graduate degree programs. As such, candidates must have a strong interest in libraries; strong computing, interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills; knowledge of standard library resources; and strong research skills. An ideal candidates will also have instruction and public speaking experience.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree and acceptance to a Graduate program at the University of Oklahoma are required. 

  • Must attach Spring 2024 schedule.

Skills:



  • Strong computing, interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills.

  • Strong service orientation and the ability to work effectively with the population as a whole.

  • Must possess a strong work ethic; ability to work collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision. 

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • This position involves sitting for long periods of time, frequently viewing a computer monitor, light lifting and teaching classes across campus. 

  Department Preferences:

  • Instruction experience.
  • Library experience.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Experience working with the public. 
  • Must demonstrate a basic knowledge of standard library resources (databases, catalogs, search engines, etc.).
