Position Summary Information


Job Description Summary
The Graduate Assistant assists with overseeing the daily operations and facility management within the Argyros Forum Student Union. The Graduate Assistant is a member of the Department of Student Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs. Specific responsibilities include:
Responsibilities
Supervision
  • Assist professional staff with supervising and managing student staff who work in the Argyros Forum Student Union.
  • On-site supervision responsibilities may include managing employee hiring, facility audio/visual resources, training & development, accountability and scheduling

Facility Operations
  • Provide on-site supervision of daily operations when working.
  • Assist Program Coordinator with facility maintenance related to Student Union spaces.
  • Collaborate with off-campus vendors and on-campus partners including Institutional Event Management, Facility Management, Custodial Services, Media Services, Sodexo, Risk Management, faculty, etc. to operate facility efficiently.
  • Support the coordination of events in the Student Union including 25Live approvals, audio/visual equipment set-up and hands-on event planning
  • Develop and grow new resources and services for students in the Student Union.

Facility Services
  • Coordinate and oversee facility resources and services for students, including Hashinger Lockers, games, lost and found
  • Develop and grow new resources and services for students in the Student Union such as video game rentals and Esports.

Other duties as assigned
  • Participate in and contribute to Department of Student Engagement programs, services, experiences, and resources as determined by supervisor.

Required Qualifications
  • Enrollment in a Master’s or PhD program, preferably focused on leadership development or higher education and student affairs.
  • Desire to gain knowledge of student development theory and issues relevant to higher education.
  • Ability/willingness to work some nights/weekends.
  • Commitment to teamwork, customer service, collaboration, and providing service to students. Ability to exercise initiative and work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills working with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the University.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy and to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to prioritize duties when faced with interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workload. Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Professional and confident demeanor when delegating and holding others accountable.
  • Ability to work with budgets, including the oversight and reconciliation of expenses.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to work 19 hours per week, Monday-Friday, between the hours of 8am-6pm except when working evening/weekend events.

Previous experience, at the graduate or undergraduate level, working directly with student union facilities and scheduling)
  • Knowledge of topics related to student transitions, belonging, and needs in higher education.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Humanity, Basecamp, 25Live.
