Position Summary
The Graduate Assistant for Marketing and Communications will work alongside members of the University Marketing & Communications to plan, develop and implement marketing initiatives across a variety of Gannon University’s owned, earned and paid media channels. This includes, but is not limited to, written publications, social media, press releases, websites, events, advertisements, video, commercials and more.
The GA will assist with daily managerial functions for student employees within the department, including but not limited to training and support on usage of Edge website and social media channels; coordinating coverage of special events; collaborating on content strategies to promote the student experience to external and internal targeted audiences.
This individual will attend and schedule various departmental meetings; provide support in planning and coverage for departmental and university events; engage as a mentor to student employees; be a liaison and resource for various departments across campus; participate in group projects with student peers and university employees; may lead various assignments on behalf of the department; develop market research, trends and reports; as well as pitch and receive content assignments for various digital and traditional media formats.
The ideal candidate will excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, working autonomously as well as collaboratively to execute integrated strategies across a cross-functional team of graphic designers, photographers, videographers, and marketing, content, communications and social media experts.
The hours and format of this position are flexible and may vary based on departmental needs and functions, working both in-person as well as virtually, with evening and weekend hours as needed to support the student employees and for various social media, events and other marketing opportunities.
The GA must be able to support and promote the university’s Mission and brand.
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled as a graduate student at Gannon University.
  • Education or experience in marketing, communication, journalism, multimedia or a related field.
  • A minimum of one year experience in management, operations and supervision is preferred.
  • Experience within a creative marketing or communications environment.
  • Proficient knowledge of Office suite of products (Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Familiar with a variety of social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, TikTok).
  • Must have strong leadership and organizational skills. This individual must be able to work with a diverse population that may include students, employees, alumni and community partners.
  • Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of AP style editorial writing and editing.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere).
  • Experience with DSLR/Mirrorless Cameras and lenses.
  • Experience in production set-up including lights, and audio equipment.
