Position Summary
The Graduate Assistant for Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science (GEMS) will focus on assisting the community educator to create, organize, and deploy projects, events, and after-school clubs within the community. GEMS engages middle school and high school-aged females in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) based activities to inspire and spark intellectual curiosity.
Essential Functions
  • The GA will work with the schools and students as needed.
  • Assist with daily operational activities.
  • Planning and preparation for various GEMS projects, events, and after-school clubs.
  • Recruiting from various schools for events.
  • Align curriculum based on TEKS.
  • Collection and analysis of data for research papers, posters, and presentations.
  • Performing other duties assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Products.
  • Ability to work effectively and shift priorities.
  • Possess organizational skills.
  • Ability to work and lead in a team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and culture.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Enrolled in a UIW graduate program at least part-time.
  • Must be in good academic standing.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
  • Experience with Qualtrics.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
N/A.
Work Hours
  • Must be available to work 10 hours per week/150 hours per semester.
  • A work schedule will be determined based on the student’s academic schedule and GEMS scheduled events.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to attend events on and off the UIW campus.
