Advertised Job Summary
The Graduate Assistant for Athletic Academic Advising is a 20 hour per week graduate assistantship in the Department of Athletics.  This position provides comprehensive academic support for student-athletes on selected teams and will assist in all life skills programming. This position reports directly to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Enrichment.
Specific Duties will include:
• Provides monitoring and academic support for at-risk student-athletes (weekly meetings, maintaining thorough documentation, progress checks with faculty, coaches’ updates, securing tutors, etc.). 
• Assists in the coordination of study hall for new student-athletes and continuing student-athletes who do not meet specified academic requirements.
• Assists with registration issues specific to student-athletes, such as priority registration, authorizing drop/add, assisting with course conflicts due to athletics competition, etc.
• Assists in coordinating mid-semester faculty academic progress reports and keeps coaches informed of student-athletes’ academic progress. 
• Assists in the academic advising load of undeclared student-athletes (in cooperation with the Student Success Center).
• Processes all travel letters for assigned student-athletes to be submitted to faculty members.
• Assist in the programing of life skills related workshops and student-athlete enrichment events.
• Works closely with the Compliance Office and F.A.R. regarding eligibility issues and related interventions.
• Assists with some evening and weekend assignments as related to conferences, campus programming, and recruiting of potential student-athletes.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all NCAA, Big South Conference, and USC Upstate rules. 
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
·         Bachelor’s degree.
·         Acceptance into the Master of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management (MSEM) program at the University of South Carolina, Columbia or any Master’s program at USC Upstate
o   Must be accepted as a graduate student to accept this graduate assistant appointment.
·         If Master’s program is not Master of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management (MSEM) program at the University of South Carolina, Columbia or any Master’s program at USC Upstate, an out of state waiver would not be guaranteed.
o   Must be accepted as a graduate student to accept this graduate assistant appointment. 
·         Successful background check.
 
Preferred Qualifications 
·         Previous experience in intercollegiate athletics
·         Previous experience in a student-athlete tutorial program
 
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
·         Comfort with juggling multiple tasks
·         Excellent written and oral communication skills
·         Ability to interact effectively with student-athletes, colleagues, and coaches
·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Compensation
·         Stipend of $1,000 per month for a 9-month academic year, with the possibility of a summer appointment
·         Out-of-state tuition waiver, if applicable (valued at approximately $12,000 to $16,000 per year depending upon how many hours the candidate attempts)
o   candidate is responsible for in-state tuition and related fees, which is approximately $10,300 to $14,000 per year depending upon how many hours the candidate attempts
·         Note, out-of-state tuition waiver is not guaranteed for Master’s programs other than ‘Master of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management (MSEM) program at the University of South Carolina, Columbia or any Master’s program at USC Upstate’.
·         USC Upstate Parking Permit
