Graduate Assistant, Civic Engagement Facilitator

Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to facilitate the implementation of selected co-curricular programs and events. In particular, the Civic Engagement Facilitator assists full-time staff with the coordination of Days of Service projects and Deliberative Dialogue forums while also promoting student participation in the Barry Service Corps. Current plans call for the Civic Engagement Facilitator to learn the facilitation processes for the Federal Work-Study (FWS) Community Service Program—integrated with the Barry Service Corps—as soon as possible. The Civic Engagement Facilitator will shadow the FWS Community Service Program Facilitator and possible take over the FWS Facilitator position in due course.


Essential Functions

1.  Assist in coordinating Days of Service projects by:

  • Contacting community partners at proposed service sites to schedule projects

  • Serving as the CCSI–community partner liaison

  • Making in-class, pre-service presentations to students

  • Supporting student leaders (Barry Service Corps Fellows) facilitating students’ post-service reflection activities

2.  Promote student participation in the Barry Service Corps (BSC) by:

  • Making presentations to students at various on-campus events, including New Student Orientation

  • Supporting Federal Work-Study Community Service student recruitment, hiring, and time-tracking processes

  • Assisting with mentoring of BSC members

3. Assist in coordinating Deliberative Dialogue forums by:

  • Contacting prospective panelists—especially students, alumni, and community partners

  • Preparing and posting eye-catching, informative flyers and posters

  • Making presentations to student clubs/organizations

  • Handling the student learning outcomes assessment process

4.  Perform other functions as required or requested to achieve the mission and goals of the CCSI.




Qualifications/Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in any field of study.

  • Must have a valid drivers license.
