ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Graduate Academic Advisor will report to the Associate Director of the School of Social Work in the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences. The Graduate Academic Advisor is a member of the Academic Support Team in the School, and works closely with the MSW Program Chairs, Field Director, and Academic Program Specialists. The Graduate Academic Advisor provides advising for over 300 students.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The position provides academic advising for the Online and Face-to-Face MSW programs. The position advises students concerning their academic plans and progress, academic schedule, choice of major, and other academic activities and career goals, to assist the student in making decisions concerning personal educational goals leading to graduation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advise students individually and/or with groups regarding academic core and/or
departmental requirements, appropriate class selection, academic policies and procedures, and campus resources. Make recommendations regarding course selection and hours per term based on student's professional goals, interests, previous academic performance, and program parameters to ensure timely graduation.
Collaborate with MSW chairs and academic program specialists to plan and implement orientation. Outreach and meet with incoming students prior to their orientation to provide a schedule. Assist MSW Chairs in evaluating transfer students to ensure proper placement in the MSW program.
Assist MSW Programs with implementation of policies affecting advisement, re-admission, and registration. Advise special populations of students within scope of responsibility, such as new or
transfer students, minority groups, etc., assisting in exploration of academic programs, and focusing on academic direction, procedures, policies, and available
resources.
Utilize USF information systems to support delivery of advising services, such as Banner, Degree Works, Archivum, and other platforms for advising and university initiatives. Maintain advising records and confidential student evaluation records. Perform basic statistical analysis and other mathematical calculations pertaining to advising (e.g. GPA, weighted averages, academic probation, LOA's, etc.). Respond to student and university emails within 48 business hours.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling or academic field directly related to the Advisor's specific responsibilities with a minimum of one year of experience in advising or related academic functions within higher education.

 

**Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for 31 the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.**

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Banner Experience, MSW Degree (Master of Social Work), Experience working in higher education advising
