Overview
The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Golf Course Worker for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The position reports to the golf course superintendent.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Performs general maintenance of golf grounds including operating mowers, string trimmers, weeding, fertilizing, tree trimming, planting, and aerating turf areas.
  • Sets tee markers and cups, maintains ball washers, fills divots, and empties garbage. Irrigates turf areas and planting beds as directed by the supervisor.
  • Helps in project work; assists in the construction of new greens, tees, fairways, and bunkers, grades soil, lay sod and seeds grass.
  • Operates power equipment and drives University vehicles.
  • Detects faulty equipment and reports questionable conditions related to the golf course and equipment to the supervisor.
  • Places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a professional service area and maintenance building.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • High school/vocational school education or equivalent plus one year experience in grounds maintenance to include experience or training in the operation of power equipment to include small backhoes, tractors, golf course mowers and other , equipment utilized in grounds maintenance.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Valid driver’s license and two years driving experience.
  • Will be required to successfully complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area construction/maintenance work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred degree includes successful completion of a 2 or 4 year degree from a recognized turf grass management program.
  • Knowledge of golf.
  • Experience in grounds maintenance of a golf course is preferred.
Equipment Utilized
  • Specialized power equipment includes small backhoes, tractors, golf course mowers, and other equipment utilized in grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area construction/maintenance work is helpful.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel is helpful.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Be comfortable working outside in all types of weather.
  • Standing for long periods.
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Be able to communicate effectively over the radio.
  • Be able to work independently.
Special Conditions
  • Shift hours/Schedule: 5:30am-2:00pm M-F, WITH SOME OVERTIME/WEEKENDS AS JOB DEMANDS
