The Global Writing & Speaking Fellowship is designed for graduating students and young professionals, who have recently completed their academic study programs within the past 3 years. The primary responsibility of Writing and Speaking Fellows is to provide academic support to NYU Shanghai undergraduate students. This includes one-on-one tutoring and academic coaching consultations, new student orientation and academic skills workshops, student engagement activity facilitation, assessment and interviews of prospective students, exam proctoring, etc. Fellows also have opportunities to strengthen their leadership, project management, and intercultural communication skills by working with various departments through an Institutional Enrichment Project (IEP). As part of their IEP, Fellows might mentor various student groups, work with students in their career development or graduate school applications, or launch new initiatives, events and programs that contribute to intellectual life and community development on campus. Fellows are also asked to provide support to the larger NYU Shanghai community by staffing university-level events on a need basis.

Apart from the above responsibilities, Fellows will also complete an independent scholarship project over the course of the academic year, with mentorship from a member of the NYU Shanghai faculty. Fellows will have opportunities to present and share their findings with the NYU Shanghai community in an end-of-year presentation.

Terms of employment at NYU Shanghai are comparable to NYU New York and other U.S. institutions. The fellowship will be a 10-month appointment from August 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024. Usually, a first-year Fellow can apply for a second year returning fellowship for another 12 months.
