JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

As the central hub for Penn State's worldwide initiatives, Penn State Global offers pathways for individuals interested in pursuing a career in international education. Currently, Penn State Global is in search of a highly driven individual with strong analytical skills to take on the role of Global Safety Analyst. This position entails being a part of the Global Safety team, a group of professionals dedicated to implementing Penn State Global's protocols, guidelines, and training programs to ensure the health, safety, and security of Penn State's students, faculty, and staff during international travels.

The primary responsibilities of the analyst include conducting thorough research and risk assessments related to the health, safety, and security conditions of various destinations frequented by university-affiliated travelers. Moreover, the analyst oversees the registration and monitoring of international travel activities, reviews travel documentation, and provides support to travelers regarding the university's international health insurance coverage.

Key duties:

  • Conduct comprehensive research and risk assessments for diverse international destinations.

  • Implement effective mitigation strategies to minimize traveler risks.

  • Monitor and report significant global developments impacting university travelers.

  • Oversee travel registration and maintain accurate records of international travelers.

  • Develop and deliver training and pre-departure briefings for faculty, staff, and students.

  • Coordinate with the university's international emergency assistance and medical insurance providers.

  • Offer guidance on insurance procedures to university travelers.

  • Facilitate communication between international insurance providers and university travelers.

  • Manage restricted travel petitions and liaise with travelers and other university stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with the Office of Ethics and Compliance for Export Control reviews.

  • Participate in a rotational on-call schedule for the Global Safety duty phone, promptly responding to critical incidents, even during after-hours, weekends, or holidays.

This role involves engaging with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, senior university administrators, and businesses. Global Safety ensures a weekday in-person presence of one or more employees at the University Park campus during regular business hours. Penn State Global acknowledges and supports flexible work arrangements as long as they meet the unit's requirements and the essential duties of the position. There is potential for this position to qualify for a hybrid work setup, allowing for a combination of in-person and remote work. Education and Experience

The position minimally requires a bachelor's degree or higher and three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred qualifications encompass, but are not confined to, experience such as living, working, or traveling abroad, proficiency in analysis and research, adeptness in data processing, critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience in public speaking. Some level of domestic and international travel may be anticipated as part of the role.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and capacity to quickly grasp new software applications.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

The anticipated start date for this position is May 2024.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$46,400.00 - $67,300.00
