Position Highlights

The University of Arizona (UArizona) seeks up to eight individuals to teach courses in academic writing for undergraduate students in dual-degree programs at universities in China and Vietnam, to begin in August 2023. Instructors will teach the equivalent of four Foundations Writing courses per semester, participate in annual program assessment, and assist with up to two hours/week of program activities (e.g., discussion groups, movie nights) for students. Teachers work within the University of Arizona Writing Program curriculum and receive teacher support from our main campus in Tucson, Arizona.
Students are enrolled in undergraduate dual-degree programs at the following universities: Ocean University in Qingdao, China (dual-degree in Law); Northwest Agriculture & Forestry University (NWAFU) near Xi’an, China (dual-degree in Environmental Science); Hebei University of Technology in Tianjin, China (dual-degrees in applied physics, mechanical engineering, and materials science and engineering); Capital University of Economics & Business (CUEB) in Beijing, China (dual-degree in statistics and data science); and Hanoi Law University (HLU) in Hanoi, Vietnam (dual-degree in law). Please indicate in your application letter which location(s) you are interested in teaching at.
We seek instructors with a background in teaching college-level writing to English as an additional language (EAL) users. The ideal candidates will have knowledge and experience in second language writing, genre-based instruction, and content-based instruction, and they will have an interest in living and teaching in an intercultural environment in China and Vietnam.
Compensation package includes: annual salary of up to $45,000; individual or family on-campus furnished apartment housing; health insurance; annual roundtrip airfare to residence in China; moving allowance (up to $1000); support for travel to professional conferences (up to $500/year).

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach Foundations Writing courses within the University of Arizona Writing Program curriculum.
  • Participate in weekly faculty meetings and occasional professional development opportunities.
  • Assist in student and program assessment.
  • Assist in extracurricular program activities.
  • Additional involvement in on-going curriculum development and other professional development projects are encouraged.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MA in TESOL or related field.
  • At least two years of experience teaching at the university level, including at least one year teaching English as an additional language (EAL) writers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least two years teaching first-year or foundations writing at the university level, preferably to EAL writers.
  • Experience living abroad.
  • Some proficiency in Chinese is preferred but not required.
