About the Department:
The units directly under the Senior International Officer (SIO) are the Global Education Office (GEO) and International Enrollment Partnerships (IEP); in addition, there is close collaboration with other international-focused units at the university such as INTO Mason, Mason Korea, and Office of International Programs and Services (OIPS). These units collectively support the internationalization efforts of the university and in support GMU's Strategic Plan, serving both students studying abroad, as well as international students coming to Mason.
About the Position:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Global Faculty-Led Programs, this position is responsible for the administration of customized study abroad programs. This includes working closely with faculty on program logistics, communicating with students, faculty, departments and administrative units on campus, as well as liaising with educational institutions abroad, third-party vendors, and international organizations.
This position maintains relationships with appropriate faculty and academic units, administrative units on campus, and within GEO, such as the Associate Director, Global Faculty-Led Programs, the Director of Operations, the GEO Operations Specialist, Office of Financial Aid, and establishes new relationships as necessary. In addition, the Administrator manages student applications to programs, advising students, promoting and marketing programs in their portfolio, and creating, maintaining and publishing program material. Raising the profile of study abroad on and off campus, and giving procedural guidance/training to University constituents on study abroad practices are secondary responsibilities. This position is responsible for a portfolio of study abroad programs led by George Mason faculty.
Responsibilities:
- Program Adviser/Record-Keeping: Process student applications and registrations; coordinate with faculty directors and educational institutions abroad to evaluate student academic qualifications and suitability for program; manage communication with students and departments across campus on application processes and program offerings; advise students;
- Program Management: Assist in program design. Maintain positive relationships and manage communication with current and future partners; faculty leading programs, supporting departments, educational institutions abroad, travel vendors and appropriate administrative units on and off campus. Responsible for RFPs for program logistics. Collect budget information and prepare budget first draft. Responsible for initial sharing of Mason contract requirements with vendors. Utilized best practices for successful program evaluation and development. Communicate program goals as outlined by the Manager Faculty-Led Programs and Director of GEO to faculty directors;
- Short-Term Study Abroad Program Recruitment/Advising: Through timely, accurate and innovative effort, plan and implement student recruitment strategies. Promote and market study abroad opportunities in portfolio; create, maintain and publish material. Develop promotional events. Accurately, and in a timely fashion, communicate program details to Social Marketing and Outreach Manager, program administrator team and student participants; and
- Promotion of Study Abroad/Other Duties as Assigned: Assist with department projects as assigned. Organize activities to promote department within the University (name recognition).
Required Qualifications:
- BA in related studies such as International Studies, Education, or Foreign Language or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Experience in study abroad as a participant, or experience living abroad;
- Ability to advise students; and
- Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred;
- Knowledge of international study abroad program administration;
- Knowledge of different educational systems throughout the world;
- Basic marketing skills;
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles;
- Superior time-management skills;
- Intermediate skills with MS Office Suite; and
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population.
