A Geographic Information System (GIS) Student Technician will need to make maps, customized GIS applications and manipulate data to serve a variety of purposes. They read and interpret maps, manipulate and understand digital land data and manage data entered into a GIS database. The GIS Student Technician will be responsible for creating, converting, editing, analyzing and modeling geospatial data. Working with or modifying GIS web-applications and updating or writing application user guides for a variety of projects. Support GIS Program Staff.  
The GIS Student Technician must be proficient in the use of the GIS software, understanding the basics of GIS and Remote Sensing/Image processing; demonstrated knowledge in the use of ArcGIS 9.3 or newer, including ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and estensions such as Spatial Analyst. Ability to use a wide range of computer programs that include MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access. Must be self motivated, reliable and have the ability to learn new software programs quickly, must have good attention to detail in order to maintain and enter data in a GIS Database. They also need to have superb written and oral communication skills for creating and presenting data reports, training other students on how to use GIS technology and may need to work on GIS programming tasks.
