Summary: American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking ONE GIS Support Member to assist in providing technical support for the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area's management of resources geospatial data. Start Date: March 2023 End Date: July 2023 * A 18-week commitment is required * Location: Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area in Atlanta, GA. Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is "an ancient river in a modern city," and offers many opportunities to get outdoors, including hiking, rafting, and fishing. Atlanta is Georgia's largest city and capital and can boast itself as a thriving business and entertainment center with an eclectic mix of residents back dropped by a city with southern roots. The park is in the northern suburbs of Atlanta and near the interstate and basic amenities (grocery store, retail shopping, post office, etc.). The park includes 48-river miles from Buford Dam to Peachtree Creek and 15 discontinuous land units. The park has one Visitor Center and units with trailheads, boat ramps, and picnic areas. Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $400/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly. Housing: The ACE Member will be accommodated in dormitory-style housing at no cost for the duration of the term. The shared quarters are located within walking distance of park headquarters and include a washer, dry, kitchen, and shared common space. Individuals have private bedrooms. Individuals will be responsible for their own bedding, towels, and toiletries. The closest supermarket is 2 miles away from park housing. There is public transportation near housing, but it is not convenient or extensive. (https://www.itsmarta.com/). AmeriCorps: This position may be eligible for a 675-hour AmeriCorps Education Award of ($3,247.50) upon successful completion of service hours. Additional enrollment and volunteer service is required. Position Description: The purpose of this position is to provide the participant with the opportunity to use geospatial software, skills, and knowledge in park management applications. The participant will be responsible for providing geospatial data management support for GIS activities supporting land, water, and ecosystem management functions as well as resource interpretation at the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA). The individual selected will use GIS equipment and software to compile, capture, and update resource databases from various source maps according to the guidelines of specific data sets. They will ensure accuracy and appropriateness of data and correct any errors. The individual will create simple thematic map products and presentation materials. Duties will include but are not limited to: Assist in the implementation and maintenance of existing and future GIS information management systems to support CRNRA's mission Apply geospatial data standards to existing park data Assist staff to provide detailed information for easier compiling, summarizing, analysis or reports including geospatial data. Production of simple thematic map products and presentation materials for non-personal interpretation Provide knowledge and support to work in ESRI web-based applications and tools such as ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123, etc. May build out or assist with additional surveys or collection efforts as needed. Collect data to support non-personal education such as recreational water quality sampling, vegetation surveys, wildlife observations, surveying, visitor use patterns, etc. This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups. The park will provide safety training, ethics, first aid, CPR, and GIS training. The member will present a professional image representing the Department of the Interior-National Park Service and must comply with the personal appearance standards outlined in Reference Manual 43. Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a hiring authority upon completion of their term of service.

Must have the ability to multitask and have basic understanding of cartographic principles Must have sufficient skills to work mostly independently with occasional assistance from NPS staff Preferred: Possess a degree (or be pursuing a degree) in geography, planning, natural or cultural resource management or other related disciplines Experience working with ESRI GIS desktop and online products, geospatial data management, and GIS application development and deployment Familiarity with natural resources management Familiarity with the mission of the NPS and other federal land management agencies Possess a personal vehicle for personal travel.
