Job Summary
The Center for Rural Health Research is accepting applications for a GIS Specialist.
The GIS Specialist will utilize a variety of analytical skills, software, and advanced data processing techniques, including machine learning, to derive insight from datasets. This role involves extensive data visualization in ArcGIS and Tableau. This position is expected to collaborate with the research team at the East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Center for Rural Health Research (CRHR) to identify, clean, analyze, and interpret data from internal sources and external partners. Additionally, the GIS Specialist will coordinate data management needs, develop comprehensive data dashboards, and apply machine learning models to enhance data analysis and predictive capabilities. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Geography, Engineering, Surveying, or related field
  • Two years of related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Geography, Geosciences, Public Health, Epidemiology, or other related programs and a Graduate GIS Certificate.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for machine learning applications.
  • Experience with research processes.
    Experience with institutions of higher learning processes for IRB and grant funded contracts processing.
  • Previous workforce or academic learning experience in data visualizations and dashboards such as ArcGIS, Tableau, or other similar software must be demonstrated.
  • Experience in conducting spatial data analysis and predictive modeling.
  • Experienced in Microsoft packages and statistical software.
