About the Opportunity

Planning, Real Estate and Facilities (PREF) is responsible for the development, planning, construction, delivery, management and maintenance of physical campus environment – its academic, research and administrative spaces, the building and campus infrastructure, and the surrounding landscape. The responsibilities expand across all domestic and global campuses. 

 

Within PREF, the GIS manager position is part of the centralized team that provides services in support of all platforms and applications used by the division along with leading functions of data and BI analytics, IT support and project controls. The position will be part of a growing team that leads multiple interdepartmental and cross-departmental initiatives aiming for digital transformation and advancement of technologies used by the university. 

The GIS Manager position will be responsible for managing and developing the enterprise GIS program. The position will be supporting the division’s long-term geospatial strategy and its direction along with the shortterm goals of improving university’s operations with modern geospatial solutions. In addition to PREF, the program is defined to provide services to other university administrative divisions. Growing the program to be a true enterprise is one of the key aspects of this effort.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop data pipelines that geo-enable business systems and building applications to enable better and quicker decision making and field mobility.
  • Coordinating and managing interdepartmental enterprise GIS projects to improve cross-department coordination, user access to critical information and decision making at all levels.
  • Support the GIS Coop (internship) Program and supervise GIS Coops throughout the academic year.
  • Serve as a technical resource and support to all GIS deployments.
  • Support efforts to improve the use of 3D and BIM models and floorplans in the GIS environment for indoor mapping and asset management.
  • Keep up with current and future technologies and advise on how to improve our services and technology.
  • Provide oversight of third-party support, when needed.
  • GIS system administration.
  • Define, configure and validate data sources from enterprise systems and the data warehouse in order to support GIS objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge and skills required for this position are normally obtained through a Bachelor’s degree in Geography/GIS, Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field and a minimum of three years of experience with technical GIS work and data products.
  • Advanced GIS knowledge and proficiency with Esri ArcGIS product suite: ArcGIS Pro, ArcGISServer/Enterprise; Web GIS system (ArcGIS Portal/Online) and GIS database maintenance and administration; standard and advanced spatial analysis tasks and geoprocessing tools.
  • Experience deploying ArcGIS applications such as Dashboards, Field Maps, Survey123, Experience Builder, Web AppBuilder, etc.
  • Understanding of data migration concepts and experience with automation workflows and ETL (extract, transform, and load) practices.
  • Proficient documentation and communication skills, both written and oral; good analytical and problem-solving skills; adaptive creativity and resourcefulness. Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision and to lead project tasks.
  • Familiarity with software commonly used for facilities design, management, and maintenance services in a modern campus environment such as IWMS platforms is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit is preferred.
  • Understanding of Python scripting.
