General Notes

This position is located at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin.

Purpose

Assess hydroclimatic model output, develop ML approaches to analyze water quantity/quality data, and assess spatiotemporal variability in various resource datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Working with large databases, applying data analytic techniques, mapping data using GIS.
  • Writing reports and presenting results at regular meetings and professional society meetings.
  • Assisting with proposal development .


Required Qualifications

M.S. with 3 years relevant experience or Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) in Earth Science (including Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Geology, Geography), Civil Engineering, or closely related field (e.g. Applied Mathematics). Demonstrated experience and aptitude with: (a) data analytics, data wrangling, data management, and data synthesis, (b) numerical and analytical modeling environments (e.g. Python), and (c) GIS analytics. Demonstrated ability to effectively: (a) work both independently and in teams, (b) manage and assimilate complex datasets and disseminate research project results to professional peers, (c) work within an integrated team of scientists, engineers, and economists in a dynamic environment, and (d) meet deadlines. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

Strong data science skills and demonstrated research experience in analyzing model data, such as output from regional-scale hydroclimatic models and hydrologic models related to climate extremes. Research skills and interests in analyzing satellite data linked to climate and hydrology. Familiarity with one or more machine learning toolkits. Self-motivated and strong problem-solving skills.


Salary Range

$65,000 + depending on qualifications


Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

  • Occasional weekend, overtime and evening work to meet deadlines

  • Occasional interstate, intrastate and international travel

  • Field work as necessary
